Grass fed beef is lower in fat and calories. It has 2-4 times more omega 3 fatty acids than grain fed beef. Omega 3’s are considered good fats and are known to reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer. Omega 3’s are also important for brain function and people who have a diet rich in omega 3’s are less likely to have depression, attention deficit disorder and Alzheimers disease.
Another healthy fat in grass fed beef is CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) also known to reduce cancer.
Our cattle have never been given growth hormones or antibiotics. They are raised slower, but naturally, the way they were intended to. We believe that you can taste the difference in our grass fed beef and invite you to try some for yourself.
Since the beginning of time, herbivores have roamed the earth, foraging for food as they roam from place to place. Cows are herbivores and as such are designed to eat grass. That is why we are committed to raising 100% grass fed and finished beef. We seek to emulate the actions of herbivores of old in an effort to raise cattle as close to nature and possible.
We use a rotational grazing method, which simply means, we keep the cattle in smaller paddocks and move them every 1-2 days. This ensures the best health for our grasses as the cattle clip only the tops before they move on. This also gives the pasture plenty of time to rest and regrow before the cattle come and graze again. Cattle also spread their own manure as fertilizer, so the use of synthetic fertilizer and fossil fuels is minimal.
Grass absorbs carbon out of the air and stores it in the soil. The grass that the cows don’t eat gets trampled and the dead grass covers the soil keeping it cool and moist. This process creates more topsoil, reduces soil erosion and is more drought resistant.
As we mentioned before, cows are designed to forage and eat grass. So that is what we give them. 100% grass from the day they are born, until the day they are processed. In the winter, when the pastures are not growing, we feed dried grasses and forages.
Our cows enjoy all the fresh air and sunshine they can get, with plenty of room to move around and graze. They live in a stress free environment.
